Arthroscopic surgery is a common orthopedic procedure that is used to diagnose and treat problems in joints like knee, shoulder, elbow, hip and ankle. The word "arthroscopy" comes from two Greek words- 'arthro' which means joint and 'scope' which means look. With the advent of MRI the use of diagnostic arthroscopy has almost disappeared but arthroscopic repair of ACL, PCL or Meniscal Injuries is the most common procedure done specially in case of sports injuries. In Arthroscopic Surgery 3 small holes are made instead of a big incision. Through one of the hole a camera with LED light is inserted, instruments go inside through the second hole and the third hole is used to either insert the implant or remove any debris from the joint. The camera sends magnified images from the inside which the surgeon sees on a monitor and performs the surgery. The advantages of an arthroscopic surgery is lesser blood loss and much faster recovery.
Sports injuries like ACL/PCL, Shoulder ligament tear etc are treated by Arthroscopic surgeon who specialises in Arthroscopic repair procedures. The cost of ACL/PCL Repair by arthroscopic method in India is 3500 - 5000 USD. Cost for repairing ACL/PCL in a single deluxe room at our hospital is USD 4000. Cost for Shoulder and Hip arthroscopies are approx 4500 - 5000 USD. In arthroscopic surgery the hospital stay is just one and the patient gets discharged from the hospital on the second day of the surgery. The patient is back on the feet within few hours of the surgery and is able to do all normal functions like going to the toilet etc from the second day. Physiotherapy starts from the second day of the surgery and continues for the next 45-60 days for full recovery. The patient has to stay in India for 5-6 days after the surgery after which they can fly back to their home town.
For any Joint Surgery, post surgery rehab is extremely important. The surgeon might have done a perfect job but if proper physiotherapy is not done after the surgery then the results would not be as good. We give special emphasis on post surgery rehabilitation. Our team of physiotherapists start working with you while you are admitted at the hospital and continue to provide the rehab services once you are discharged from the hospital and move to the hotel or the guest house. The physiotherapy in the case of arthroscopic repair of the ligaments like ACL, PCL or Meniscal would continue for a period of 45-60 days for full recovery. You are allowed to drive car after 45 days and can start training for the sport that you play after 3-4 months of the surgery. Full strength training can start after 5-6 months of the surgery.
